Hi Off Roader, welcome to our very first online newsletter!
It’s exciting to see that you’ve signed up to the Off Roader Online. It’s been almost three years now since we last penned the written version of the Off Roader and big things have happened at Australian Off Road Campers in the past 12months, let alone the last 3 years. With the aid of more staff, the Off Roader Online will now be published on a quarterly basis and will include information about all the new and exciting things that are happening at AORC, photo competitions, customer innovations, expedition stories, staff & customer profiles and Steve’s Off Road Tips & Techniques.
2010 was a momentous year for our little company - an absolute highlight was the recognition our pride and joy the Odyssey Export-Signature received at the Off Road Camper Trailer of the Year awards. There’s plenty more to tell, so please keep reading to find out about all the exciting happenings around the AORC factory.
There’s also a number of competition(s) to enter in this newsletter. We are very excited to be running a photo competition, where you’ll be in the draw to win an 80W portable solar panel, valued at $695! We’re also conducting a survey, so we can make our campers even better and to serve you to our best capacity. Fill out our survey and go in the draw to win a yearly subscription to either Camper Trailer Australia or Caravan World.
We hope that you will enjoy the Off Roader Online! If you have any suggestions for stories or features you would like to hear or write about, we’d love to hear from you.

In November last year Australian Off Road Campers won the highly acclaimed Off Road Camper Trailer of the Year 2011 award. Camper Trailer Australia magazine and a panel of expert Off Road judges not only awarded our Odyssey Export-Signature highest marks, but also aligned it alongside one of motoring’s finest, stating the Odyssey really is the Rolls-Royce of Camper Trailers!
With leading industry experts behind the wheels and on the panel of judges, Australia’s best campers were exposed to the rigors of Off Road driving. Each camper was comprehensively tested across the following criteria; Off Road performance, bushability, family-friendliness, home comforts, ease of use and value for money.
The Odyssey Export – Signature’s superior quality across the spectrum and its attention to detail in all facets of design and workmanship, saw it take out first place in the “Off Road Camper of the Year $45,000+” category, as well as the major-prize for overall “Off Road Camper of the Year 2011”. Proving not only the quality of the Odyssey’s outstanding design, engineering and manufacture, but also that the Odyssey is exceptional value for money.
What the Judges said: Carlisle Rogers, Editor of Camper Trailer Australia magazine said “Australian Off Road Campers is essentially the Rolls-Royce of camper trailers manufacturers. Nothing is done in half measures and everything on this camper is made from the finest materials, to the highest standards. It isn’t just a great camper trailer and tourer that’ll go anywhere in style, it is a fine-crafted machine that’s a joy to own, like a classic car or a Leica”.

Serendipity and the Outback by Rhonda Budden

Plans to do Cameron Corner, the Strzelecki Track and Flinders Ranges all came to grief when we joined the myriad of other campers stuck in Birdsville due to road closures.
Birdsville is always high on the ‘to do’ list and it’s easy to spend a couple of days there with a mandatory meal at the famous pub and trip out to see the legendary Big Red, largest sand hill in the Simpson Desert. While previous visits had been a chance to test both vehicle and 4W drive skills, this time to see it in flood was quite spectacular.
Another day was occupied with a flight to Lake Eyre. It is a three hour flight that reaches only the top of Lake Eyre but has the benefit of taking in views of Big Red, QAA Line crossing the Simpson Desert, the Channel Country, the mighty Wharburton Creek and Anna Creek and other of the world’s largest cattle stations.

The Matrix - Prototype Launch
|
|
| |
|
Since the launch of the Eclipse and Quantum SuperCampers two and three years ago respectively, the perfectionist in Steve has preoccupied himself with these campers. With not a spare moment to sit at his drawing board, new designs have fallen by the wayside. However, we are excited to announce that a new model is not only on the drawing board, but the prototype will soon be ready for initial testing.
The first in the way of a modern full feature, compact Off Road Caravan, the Matrix will be a full height van and the same width as the Quantum (1950mm), but with no pop-top mechanism. Fitted with the highest quality products and made from composite fiberglass, keeping the van extremely light. The major difference between the Matrix and our Super Campers, is that it’s set up primarily for indoor-living; with an indoor shower/toilet, internal kitchen (external bbq) and lounge area.
With the weight remaining around the same as the Quantum (1650kg), if not a few bricks lighter, large departure angles will ensure the overall Off Road ability of the Matrix should far surpass current full feature Off Road caravan models. We believe that there is a definite niche to be filled in the Off Road Caravan market and hope that the Matrix’s innovative design and construction will bring something new and exciting to this market.
We had planned to launch the prototype of the Matrix in just a couple of months, but with the ever increasing workloads continuing relentlessly and without the capacity to factor in further expansion. We have decided to postpone the launch until the Brisbane Caravan and Camping show in June 2012 for delivery early 2013.This will enable us to spend the next 18month testing the prototype and to build a second prototype with a queen size bed and different internal layout. Thus, ensuring the finished product is fully tested in the harshest of Australian environments.
