Dear Ben,

The last couple of months have been very exciting for everyone around Australian Off Road and especially for myself and Rhonda. After a number of years in R&D the first Matrix Off Road Caravan prototype was built and tested and then further refined in the making of the second Matrix prototype. Rhonda and I were fortunate enough to take five weeks away from the office to test drive the Matrix II across some of Australia’s prettiest and harshest terrain.

We have also deliberated greatly over the fantastic selection of entries we received for the first ever AOR photo competition – I think we’ll have to have another one soon. This month we have also given thought to how we can more tailor the Odyssey to suit the needs of different styles of travel. Our first lifestyle package has been the development of the Odyssey High Country, for travelers who like to explore the cooler climes during the winter months. We hope to release more lifestyle packages like this in the near future.

Happy Camping,
Steve & Rhonda Budden

Matrix Off Road Caravan - Launch

The Matrix Off Road Caravan is AOR’s next exciting concept to launch AOR into the caravan market. Unlike AORs’ other vans, the Matrix is a full height, full feature caravan embracing internal living. Employing all of Australian Off Road’s expertise in engineering and construction, the Matrix is fully loaded with all the luxuries you’d expect from Australian Off Road.

Rhonda and I had the pleasure of spending four weeks in the Matrix over July and August. We specifically wanted to test the Matrix over corrugations and in the cold. So we headed south towards the Flinders Ranges, South Australia and let me just say, it maybe the Queenslander it me, but it was bone chilling. Luckily, for Rhonda and I the Matrix was fitted with the Dometic Eberspacher Air Space Heater and within only in a matter of minutes could be warmed to what seemed like a roasting 20+ degrees. The fiberglass construction of the Matrix worked extremely well retaining the heat and meant that we did not have to run the heater for extended periods of time.

By the end of our trip, Rhonda and I had covered almost 3,000kms of rough roads and the Matrix travelled superbly. Built on the Quantum’s proven Off Road independent trailing arm suspension, we always thought it would travel well, but it really did surprise us the ease at which it towed, being a full height van.

Using innovative and progressive engineering techniques developed by Australian Off Road over the last decade, the Matrix Off Road caravan is feather light with a tare weight of only 1,700kg. Designed to meet the specifications of large four wheel drives and riding on Australian Off Road’s awarded Off Road suspension system, which features twin EFS Off Road shocks on each wheel, EFS Springs, 2.2tonne axle and 12” electric brakes, this van offers exceptional Off Road handling. Utilising advanced 12V and solar systems to remain self-sufficient, the Matrix will keep you 'free-camping for as long as you wish remain isolated in the Aussie bush.

The Matrix will be on display at the upcoming Melbourne Leisurefest (Oct 6-9) and the Brisbane Pre-Xmas Caravan & Camping Show (Oct 20-23).

AOR Photo Competition: WINNER

Thank you all of you who submitted images for AORC’ first ever photo competition. We received a tremendous amount of images, all of fantastic creativity and exceptional skill.

Selecting a single winner for this competition was extremely difficult, as every image was great in its own right. After much deliberation and heated discussion around AORC’ computer screens, we have decided that the winning entry goes to Mr. Al Stevenson for his image of the two Quantum’s perched beside a nest of Pacific Heron's.

Al has taken considerable effort in achieving this image. It was captured at first light and he has waded out into the lake, to capture this perspective. He has given considerable attention to not only the composition, but also the lighting and specifically capturing the birds nest from the right angle.

CONGRATULATIONS Al & Chris you’re now 80Watts of Solar Power more efficient!
